I know that this is a shocker, but there are times I get really bored with WoW.
Not bored with the characters I have created, or the game as a whole, but with what an individual character might be doing at any given time.
Take Giligan, my 53 Druid, as an example. I am having a ton of fun with that character, healing my way through 5 mans in the LFD. Right now though, I keep looking at him thinking “Only 5 more levels till Outlands”. Then I look at his XP bar and realize I am looking at about 20 LFD runs to get there, and the only thing I have seen since 49 is BRD.
I don’t care for the questing in Azeroth. I don’t mind it in Outlands or Northrend, but Azeroth… I am so done with that.
I log in, look at him, and think “if I let him sit a while he will be rested to 55, then a few runs and I will be able to pay off an 80 to smash Ramparts for me a few times till I hit 58.” Yeah, I am really done with Vanilla questing.
Then I look at my various level 80’s. The only one not already geared enough for ICC 10 is my Death Knight, and she has been parked as a banker for a while now. Other than one of my Hunters running heroic Pit of Sauron every day hoping for the Felgalcier Bolter to drop they are pretty much in standby mode.
Essentially, they are all overgeared for any 5 man out there. Since I can’t seem to find a raid during the time I do have available there is no real point to playing them until the expansion.
What do I find myself doing on those days?
I roll an alt of course.
Just counting the characters I log into at least once a month or so I have:
- 80 Troll Hunter
- 80 Draeni Hunter
- 80 Human Priest
- 80 Human Death Knight
- 53 Night Elf Druid
- 47 Troll Priest
- 35 Draeni Paladin
- 32 Draeni Shaman
- 27 Draeni Warrior (who may be on the chopping block soon)
- 18 Dwarven Hunter
- 16 Tauren Druid
- 12 Human Paladin (yesterdays creation)
- 8 Draeni Mage
Some might say I am a bit of an altoholic, personally I don’t really see it that way.
The way I look at it the game does not begin at 80, in fact it kinda ends there.
Once I have dinged for the final time and run a weekend worth of heroics there is no real point in continuing to gear up. They are already equipped to handle anything they might run across, why bother with “BIS pre raid” gear when it will all get replaced with quest greens soon enough anyhow.
To be honest if it weren’t for their professions I would just delete the majority of them and start over. In fact that is something I am considering doing come Cataclysm time.
Possibly with a Goblin Hunter and a Worgen Druid, maybe keeping an 80 on each side of the fence as a banker toon. That could be interesting.

Dechion's Place 
I deleted a ton of my toons in the past and I have to admit it felt refreshing at the time but then I am always envious of my brother in law who has kept every character he has created, its like a history of our game play with toons even on RP realms where we started off in 2005. So yeah I’d refrain from deleting characters completely if only for the fact they act as a nice crux of past memories.
If you feel like a fresh start why not roll on a new realm?
As for ‘old Azeroth’ cant agree more, the questing is a real drag and is boring as hell. It makes me laugh when nostalgic people pipe up about how good WoW used to be, I mean sure there has been changes to the detriment of WoW but the quality of PvE (specifically questing) has never been better imo.

Deleting 80’s with dual 450 crafting professions isn’t hard. I just posted a How To on doing just that with my Death Knight BS/JC.
If you’re not going to play the character, then there’s no reason to keep them around. If you want to record where you’ve been and what you’ve done, then take some screenshots; they don’t take up character slots.
How much good are those professions really doing you if you’re not raiding? You can make all the gear your character will level into at various points, but all of that is easily replaced by dungeon runs as well. You can make gold from them to be sure, but what do you need the gold for?
As for leveling in Azeroth, I still like certain parts of it, or more specifically I like certain level ranges. As soon as I hit level 40 it starts to suck since I don’t really care for any of the zones from there on. At that point the vast majority of my levels are gained through LFG and Battlegrounds.
If you really want to speed your way through the mid-upper 50’s then Alterac Valley is amazing. You gain just shy of a full level for every non-zerg win and over half a level for every loss.
You know, I never even thought of AV.
I am totally going in there today and seeing if a tree is as much fin in BG’s as a Priest was.
Yeah, I’m done with questing through Azeroth, but my toons being leveled are DPS, so the wait takes forever. So I kinda quest as filler.
Although Psyn is spot on – AV is awesome for the 51-60 stretch (even though you die lots at 51. :P)
I was actually surprised at how long I generally sit in queue as a healer in the 50’s. Instant queues my treebarky butt, I have waitied nearly an hour just to get into a fail BRD run.
I’m sort of the opposite: I’m currently working on my 3rd Loremaster, this time from the Horde perspective.
I’ve even turned off XP gains so I can finish up the Classic game while still level 60.
It can be a drag on occasion, but I have 6 level 60s (and nothing in between) to break the tedium.
As for deleting… the highest level character I’ve deleted was a 43 Rogue. I just could not get into the class.
I have deleted toons before, I think the highest was in his mid 40’s also. I am just in a truely odd mood right now about the game.
I am really looking forward to the changes in Cataclysm, assuming it delivers as promised (and before I get bored enough with waiting to go play something else.)
For the record, At one point I was thinking seriously of deleting everything that was not my Druid or a Hunter, then leveling a Hunter of each race that can have them (9 come Cataclysm) to the cap.
That seems a bit excessive though, even to me.
Ew.
I think I may have WoW ADD. I enjoy my hunter, but can only maybe play him for two or three levels at a time. I want to enjoy my paladin, but not happening so much. May hold out until I can have a Cowadin.
I should also play my DK, but now that Chawa is a bit inspired to play hers, if I touch my DK, I’ll seem like I’m copying her. 😛 (although we need more alt-tanks)
